North Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Scott Black, with the generous support of Las Vegas Paving Corp., the Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition, Southwest Bikes and the Olympia Companies, will raffle off 64 new bicycles and distribute 1,000 free backpacks to local students during a special back-to-school event at Silver Mesa Recreation Center.
The backpack and bike giveaway will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 just before thousands of children across Southern Nevada go back to school. The event will be at Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, North Las Vegas.
"Every child deserves the tools needed to excel in school," Mayor Pro Tem Black said. "I expect we'll be seeing lots of happy North Las Vegas kids riding new bikes to school in just a few weeks!"
The backpacks and school supplies will be distributed first-come, first-served to students in attendance. Children must be present to receive a backpack, and the giveaway is limited to one backpack per student. The bicycles will be raffled. Only kindergarten through 12th grade students are eligible to receive backpacks or bikes.
