Utilities Operations: Kirk Medina, Manager
The Utility Operations Division is responsible for the City of North Las Vegas’ water distribution system and sanitary sewer collection system. The water distribution system consists of several pump stations, well sites, storage facilities and over 1100 miles of water system piping. This infrastructure enables the division to provide water service to over 80,000 customer accounts. The water system services all of incorporated North Las Vegas, as well as Sunrise Manor and sections of unincorporated Clark County. The sewer collection system services all of the incorporated areas of North Las Vegas and containing over 700 miles of piping. The division is also responsible for the maintenance of all the storm drains throughout the City.
The Utilities Operations Division is comprised of three (3) sections:
Water Operations
The Water Operations section is responsible for providing safe drinking water to our customers utilizing water system security measures and backflow prevention programs. This includes verifying that there is plenty of water available to meet water demands and ensuring that water pressures are good throughout our system. In addition, this section is responsible for the effective maintenance of all production and storage facilities throughout our system.
For more information regarding the backflow prevention program or to submit completed backflow certification forms, please contact us at: BackflowProgram@cityofnorthlasvegas.com.
Field Services
The Field Services section is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all water distribution and wastewater collection system piping. This section ensures that fire hydrants are in sound working order, water or sewer main breaks are repaired immediately and service leaks are repaired in a timely manner.
Pre-Treatment
The Pretreatment section is responsible for protecting the City's wastewater collection system and the storm water collection system. It ensures that businesses within the City of North Las Vegas do not discharge chemicals or other contaminants into the sanitary sewer system. It also prevents sewer blockages by requiring the installation of grease interceptors where needed. This section is responsible for the application and enforcement associated with the federal Clean Water Act. Crews regularly clean and inspect sewer mains to prevent blockages and minimize sewer overflows.
