Library Facts
Established in 1993 by an act of the state legislature, the North Las Vegas Library District has its own tax base and receives a portion of the property tax. Acting City Manager Maryann Ustick is the Chief Administrative Officer and Kathy Pennell is the District Director. They, with guidance of the Board of Trustees, oversee the budget, management, and operations of the District. The Board of Trustees consists of seven members appointed by the City Council. Board meetings are held bimonthly at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 2250 Las Vegas Boulevard North. Currently, Cathy Lynch Chairs the Board and Rita Langford is Vice-Chair.

North Las Vegas Library
Located at 2300 Civic Center Drive, the District’s North Las Vegas Library was established in 1966. In 1986, the facility was expanded to include a community room. It was further renovated in 1994 so that it would comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements. The facility measures 18,000 square feet and has a collection of 92,000 volumes. Aliante Library
Aliante Library opened to the public in May 2006, at 2400 W. Deer Springs Way, just east of Aliante Parkway. The library is a one story, 15,900 square-foot building that houses a reference, circulation, young adult, and a children’s section with an outside patio for story times. The library offers public access computers, adult and children’s programming and meeting rooms in addition to books, videos, DVDs, magazines, and newspapers. Other features include a special programs room, multi-purpose room, meeting rooms with kitchen, circulation and reference desks, book processing areas, and staff offices. The exterior building design complements the surrounding community, and the landscaping blends into the adjacent Nature Discovery Park.
Alexander Library
The Alexander Library, the City’s newest state-of-the-art facility, opened March 11, 2009. Located at 1755 W. Alexander Road, the 16,400 square-foot library includes meeting rooms, children’s library, public access computers and thousands of books and multi-media titles. There is also an adjacent two-acre park that includes tot lots, shade structures, paved and lighted walking paths and demonstration gardens.
